These two Kingdoms became united for this single sovereign State. United Kingdom and Great Britain. She continued reigning Queen for Great Britain and Ireland, until her death.
Duchess of Marlborough were angered when Abigail moved into Kensington Palace rooms where Sarah considered her own, although rarely used them. In July 1708, she came into court with this bawdy poem written by some Whig propagandist, probably Arthur Maynwaring, implying this lesbian relationship between Anne and Abigail. This Duchess wrote Anne this letter, informing her, she had damaged own reputation by conceiving: 'a great passion for such a woman; strange and unaccountable'. Sarah thought Abigail had risen above her station, writing: 'I never thought her education was such as to make her fit company for a great queen'. Many people liked Anne's humour from their chambermaids and had been very kind to them. But: 'tis very uncommon to hold a private correspondence with them and put them upon the foot of a friend'. While some modern commentators, whom had concluded Anne was lesbian, most rejected this analysis. Opinion from Anne's biographers, she considered Abigail nothing more than some trusted servant. This woman with strong traditional beliefs; who was devoted only for her husband. |
